Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Questions you might have for us regarding our admissions process
Do you give school tours?

Yes, we offer personalized school tours tailored to meet the needs of each family. Tours are provided almost every day, and you can schedule one.

After the tour, a member of our Admissions Team will guide you through the admissions process and answer any questions you may have.

We require the following documents to be submitted with each application:

  • Proof of identity
  • Academic records from the past 3 years
  • A recommendation from a current teacher or principal.

A checklist of the required documents to be submitted is also provided in the online Applicant Page that is created when you submit an application.

Yes, the application interview is an important part of the process as we use this to assess a student’s readiness and suitability to enter MBIS. Interviews are carried out in a relaxed and supportive setting—designed to put students at ease rather than create stress. If you are applying from overseas, the interview can be conducted online.
Applicants with limited English learning experience will be assessed to understand their English language proficiency level. This assessment is not ‘pass/fail’ but is considered alongside academic records, recommendations, and the application interview. The results may also be used to determine grade or class placement. Applicants for the MBIS Early Years program will be invited to a trial morning in the classroom

Admissions at MBIS operates on a rolling enrollment basis, allowing you to submit applications and start your child at any time during the school year. Once all required documents are submitted, the process typically takes about two weeks to complete testing, interviews, and decisions, followed by notification of results and a start date. Please note that timelines may be extended at the beginning of the school year due to a higher volume of applications.

Typically, the academic year begins in late August and ends in mid-June. Optional Summer School is also available until mid-July.

Notification of admission results are sent by email. Applicants are given a week to accept an offer of admission
The application fee may be paid by bank transfer. Bank details are provided in the online Applicant Page.
Yes, we offer sibling tuition discounts for every younger sibling enrolled at MBIS. The tuition discount will be reflected in the tuition statement after enrollment has been approved.
We prefer students to have an age-appropriate level of English. However, we do accept students who are still developing their language skills. Please note, students in grades 3-12 must meet the minimum academic English standards for admission.
Yes, absolutely. As an international school in Japan, we welcome students from all faiths, religions, and belief systems. While MBIS was founded by Marist Brothers, the school is now governed by a Board of Directors and Trustees. We cherish the traditions of our founders and continue to espouse their universal values.
No, however, we will assist families by providing enrollment information to support their child’s visa process.

MBIS welcomes all applicants, but our personnel and facilities may not be equipped to accommodate the full range of student needs. Admissions and placement decisions are made on an individual basis, with recommendations from the Admissions Team and final decisions by the Divisional Heads.

Please note that our facilities currently lack ramps and elevators, which may limit access for students with specific physical access requirements.

It is essential that any identified learning needs or relevant issues are fully disclosed during the application process. Failure to do so may result in denial or withdrawal of admission.

Some grade levels are nearing capacity, and new applicants may be placed in a wait pool. Please note that this operates as a pool of candidates rather than a sequential list. When a space becomes available, the most suitable candidate will be selected from the pool. For further details, please refer to our Admissions Policy & Procedures
