Physical Education


Grades 7 and 8

The content of the middle years Physical Education curriculum for Grades 7 and 8 includes a variety of activities to help develop skills in personal fitness and sport. It also aims to create a positive attitude towards living an active life-style. The emphasis of the program is based on participation in a variety of life-long team and individual sports and activities. These activities include Modified Games, Badminton, Basketball, Fitness Testing, Softball, Frisbee, Soccer, Table Tennis and Volleyball. Motor skills, terminology, strategies and rules are incorporated into the activities.

Grade 9

Physical Education is a required course for Grade 9. Students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports and activities that will help them develop and improve their physical fitness, motor and sports skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. These include Badminton, Fitness Testing, Volleyball, Basketball, Frisbee, Soccer, Softball, American Football and Cricket. Sports clothes and good quality athletic shoes are requirements for all classes as are punctuality, responsibility, initiative and effort.

Grade 10

The content of the Physical Education curriculum for Grade 10 includes a wide variety of traditional team sports, recreational and movement experiences. Students take part in cooperative, competitive and individual activities including Badminton, Basketball, Touch Rugby, Fitness Testing, Soccer, Softball, Weight Training, Orienteering and Volleyball.

Grade 11 and 12

The students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports and activities. These are designed to help them develop and improve their physical fitness, motor and sports skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. Examples of these sports and activities include Fitness Testing, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Badminton & Table Tennis, Cricket, Handball, Weight Training and La Crosse.

Grade 7 & 8

Within the Health Education course students examine a variety of health related topics aimed at promoting and enhancing their own physical, social, emotional and spiritual well-being. Topics examined and discussed throughout the year include: nutrition and physical fitness, mental health and sex education. Through class discussion, role-play and group based activities, students analyze the influences on adolescents in relation to these health issues.
