Mathematics

Algebra 1
This course covers the standard topics of first year algebra: integers and rationals, linear equations and functions, linear inequalities, systems of equations, exponents and radicals, quadratic equations and functions, polynomials and factoring. After studying basic concepts, there is an emphasis on problem-solving in real-life applications. There is also an emphasis on graphing to "see" what the problem looks like. This latter function lends itself to the use of the graphing calculator, although only a simple calculator is needed for the course.

Geometry
This course covers the standard topics of geometry: parallel lines, congruent triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, and circles. Also included are units on logic, two-column proofs, transformations, and right triangle trigonometry. After studying the basic concepts there is an emphasis on problem solving in real-life situations.

Algebra 2
This course covers the standard topics of Algebra 2 as well as some areas of Trigonometry and Geometry. Topics covered include: simultaneous equations in two and three variables, nonlinear equations, right triangle trigonometry, polar and rectangular coordinates, vectors, quadratic equation solving, and complex numbers. Students are required to use a scientific calculator throughout the course.

Pre-Calculus
This course includes a concentrated study of the proofs of geometry, logarithmic equations, trigonometric identities, and infinite series. Appearing in problems throughout this course are conic sections, matrices and determinants. Also included are similar polygons and congruent polygons. Emphasis is also placed on abstract word problems. In the second semester, some time is set aside for SAT preparation in order to revise topics relevant to the test and to provide mastery in test-taking skills.

Advanced Mathematics
This course emphasizes critical thinking skills integrating statistics, probability, quadratic equations, functions, matrices and determinants and trigonometry. The focus is upon the application of algebra to real life situations. Technology is used throughout the course to verify and investigate findings. A significant portion of this course is given to SAT preparation, to revise topics relevant to the test and to provide mastery in test taking skills.

Functions, Statistics and Trigonometry
This course emphasizes critical thinking skills integrating statistics, probability, quadratic equations, functions, matrices and determinants and trigonometry. The focus is upon the application of algebra to real life situations. Technology is used throughout the course to verify and investigate findings.

AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus is an intensive, full year course. Topics include: limits, differentiation, optimization problems, integration, area and volume.
