Principal's Welcome

I am now entering my third year as Supervising Principal at Marist Brothers International School in Kobe, Japan. I am very proud to lead a team of dedicated teachers, staff, parents, students and alumni who share in the traditions of the school and take pride in what can be collectively achieved.

I come to the school originally from Australia. I have taught and held administrative positions in such places as Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Korea and most recently, in Kuwait. My teaching experiences have covered the full range, from pre-school Montessori classes through to training English teachers. I was a founding teacher at North Jakarta International School, and founding Principal at Indianhead International School in Korea.

One has only to walk into the campus area here to gain a sense of what makes Marist Brothers International School so distinctive among international schools. A sense of pride, a feeling of belonging, an atmosphere of support and care, all these things are evident when you meet the student body, or listen to the interactions of faculty and students. This unique school culture is the result of a long tradition steeped in a Catholic ethos of care for the individual and the family. With strong ties to the Kobe community, Marist Brothers International School reflects the host country culture of Japan in all it undertakes, while also valuing the more than 20 nationalities represented in the school community. Marist Brothers International School is proud of its alumni, as they are proud of the institution which supported them in their academic, sporting, cultural and social endeavors. What makes this school successful is the balance maintained between striving for academic excellence, and the development of a well rounded student. The faculty and staff are dedicated to providing the knowledge and skills to achieve the former, yet also foster the development of the whole child, providing opportunities for sports, music, community service, Model United Nations, public speaking, art and haiku competitions.

I firmly believe that you do not have to be big to be good, and that is certainly true when it comes to education. While Marist Brothers International School is a small school, it is a great school. Come and see for yourself!
