Lower School

The first through sixth grade program at Marist Brothers International School focuses on developing the whole child. At its core is an academic program emphasizing reading, writing, and mathematical skills along with social studies and science. Various levels of intensive language support are available for those students whose first language is not English. The curriculum is based on the learning standards of the Department of Education of the State of California, adapted to meet the diverse needs of our multicultural student body. Religious Studies lessons and weekly reflections help the children respect, understand and accept each other's varying cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs. Specialist teachers instruct students in art, music, Japanese, and physical education.

Marist offers a variety of extra-curricular activities for elementary students. In recent years we have offered drama, board games, intramural sports, Gospel choir and Japanese art class. At weekly elementary assemblies, the children are able to improve their public speaking skills by performing skits, dances and songs for the rest of the school. Our entire school community works together on various special events throughout the year, including the International Food Fair and Bazaar, Pumpkin Festival, Christmas Celebrations, International Week, and Japanese Culture Week.
